Clara had claimed she fell there.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe footage jumps from 6:41 to 6:58.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seventeen minutes.<\/p>\n

Leo turned toward Vincent.<\/p>\n

Vincent took another drink.<\/p>\n

\u201cTechnical problem?\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel shook his head.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo outage anywhere else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leo asked, \u201cWho has access?\u201d<\/p>\n

Daniel did not answer immediately.<\/p>\n

That was answer enough.<\/p>\n

Leo\u2019s voice lowered.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFour people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNames.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou. Me. Vincent. And Marta because she manages household operations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vincent laughed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre we seriously turning a maid\u2019s accident into a criminal investigation?\u201d<\/p>\n

Leo looked toward him.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vincent relaxed slightly.<\/p>\n

Leo continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m turning seventeen missing minutes from my security system into an investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

That relaxation disappeared.<\/p>\n

Vincent put down the glass.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t touch your cameras.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t say you did.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another pause.<\/p>\n

Leo knew guilty men often rushed to defend themselves before anyone accused them.<\/p>\n

Vincent stood.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve known each other fifteen years.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSixteen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s my point.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. Your point was emotional. I corrected the number.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vincent stared at him.<\/p>\n

Leo walked slowly toward the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid you see Clara this morning?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThink carefully.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI said no.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leo nodded.<\/p>\n

Vincent smiled faintly.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the maintenance server keeps low-resolution copies for twenty-four hours.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leo looked at the screen.<\/p>\n

The video loaded.<\/p>\n

Clara entered the hallway.<\/p>\n

Vincent followed her.<\/p>\n

He reached for her arm.<\/p>\n
